Dinner at the Claptonian Arts Club 27th March
This has been long time coming. It’s finally time for us Claptonians to return to hosting dinners (if you exclude a privately booked one a few weeks back). Next Saturday 27th March, we are cooking up a storm with a special appearance from our guest chef, all the way from west London :)
As usual, the menu is Scandinavian. This time all the three dishes and the welcome drink are traditionally Swedish.
The dessert “Sju sorters kakor” stands for seven variations of biscuits.
This came to tradition in Sweden in the late 1700 and is the amount of biscuits you should serve your guests when they come over for coffee.
The number seven is used in many situations; the deadly sins, Jesus last words on the cross, the seven flower under your pillow on midsummer night and snow whites seven dwarfs…
Our starter “Toast Skagen” is the most common dish on the menu at celebrations.
It was developed by Tore Wretman, one of the founders of The Gastronomic Academy in Sweden and the world’s first professor in gastronomy.
The dish is named after Skagen, a region and town in Denmark popular with artist, writers and other bohemians such as P.S Krøyer and Hans Christian Andersen, for it’s amazing light and picturesque qualities.
Here comes the menu!
