This picture is from a previous event. Kate and her lovely friends, some from Ireland and others more local Hackney residents. They had an exhibition and a gig planned locally and finished it all with a visit to The Claptonian Arts Club. It was great having you around x

The mellow Sundays are back.

Dear Friends, followers and fellow Claptonians.

After a short gap we are back doing the brunches. It's been a busy time for the artists and curators involved in this venture as we all have been away on travels and working on our individual practice. We have certainly had a few eventful weeks away.

Below is the menu for this Sundays brunch. We hope you can join us and promise we will not mention the volcano, unless you want to that is.

Best Wishes,

The Claptonians

Dinner at the Claptonian Arts Club 27th March

This has been long time coming. It’s finally time for us Claptonians to return to hosting dinners (if you exclude a privately booked one a few weeks back). Next Saturday 27th March, we are cooking up a storm with a special appearance from our guest chef, all the way from west London :)
As usual, the menu is Scandinavian. This time all the three dishes and the welcome drink are traditionally Swedish.

The dessert “Sju sorters kakor” stands for seven variations of biscuits.
This came to tradition in Sweden in the late 1700 and is the amount of biscuits you should serve your guests when they come over for coffee.
The number seven is used in many situations; the deadly sins, Jesus last words on the cross, the seven flower under your pillow on midsummer night and snow whites seven dwarfs…

Our starter “Toast Skagen” is the most common dish on the menu at celebrations.
It was developed by Tore Wretman, one of the founders of The Gastronomic Academy in Sweden and the world’s first professor in gastronomy.
The dish is named after Skagen, a region and town in Denmark popular with artist, writers and other bohemians such as P.S Krøyer and Hans Christian Andersen, for it’s amazing light and picturesque qualities.

Here comes the menu!

The previous sunday at the Claptonian

I finally managed to get a picture of our guests just before they left. The evidence is here. So are pics of the work by Jorge de la Garza thats up at the moment.
We have a new starter as I mentioned before, grav lax and sill and saffron pancakes for dessert.
New for next week is the main dish. "Stockholm chili" with smoked coca cola. My dear friend Archie has a smokery and has offered his services. Thank you Archie. We love you.

Mad men

Last weekends Claptonian brunch was a lot of fun and very relaxed. We arranged it over two days instead of our usual hectic one sitting. The guests never seem to notice the difference but believe me the kitchen does. Being squashed between the washing machine and the cooker while dicing potatoes is not a pretty sight. And speaking of dicing potatoes, I truly came into my house wife-mad men person standing there for what felt like hours. But the end result was a success. 'Pytt i Panna" in all its glory.

Question?

Why do we always forget to take pictures during service???
We always remember to take a few when the tables are set and few of all the dirty dishes, but never during the brunch. Something has to change or this blog will be starved of visual content. I have some that I could post even though the artistic quality is highly questionable. Coming soon...

We have extended the exhibition with mexican artist Jorge de la Garza. Some amazing collages that are so in demand they had to be taken down and transported for a gallerist viewing before being put up again. To see his work visit www.jorgedelagarza.org

Remember how In my last post I said we have to keep the menu current to keep ourselves entertained? Well we certainly have!
There is a completely new menu being served on the 21st of February. For those who have never tried "sill" (pickled herring) or "pytt i panna" this is you chance. If you are thinking ????!!!! google it. The menu will be posted any minute now. x

Brunch Sunday 7th Feb and all that elderflower..

It looks like there is a demand for the menu we have at the moment. Really looking forward to tweaking it a bit but so many of the guests who have booked are not just coming for the art, but for the grav lax and/or the meatballs, and who are we to argue?

Still need to keep it interesting and mainly for our own entertainment, we've added a new feature to the gooey chocolate cake.
A Swedish classic with a twist, it now comes with elderflower sorbet. Very refreshing indeed.

It's the final week for viewing work by Jorge De la Garza, Chelsea College of art graduate, Mexican artist and a Hackney resident.

The menu for Sunday 7th February is the same as previously posted, (except for the elderflower sorbet of course). Someone just cancelled 2 seats so they are up for grabs. Excuse me for now, I have to go and turn the gravlax. x

Monday, 11 January 2010

And more pics to come...

I got some amazing tips from a friend on a new way to make gravad lax, I've given up on finding a decent one here in London so from scratch is the only way to fly. I'm also on the lookout for new artwork, specially drawings, plays etc

Well, here are more pics...

The Claptonian Arts Club Christmas Brunch.

Burrrrrrr

Back from an absolutely freezing holiday in Sweden with snow up to my waist burrrrr..........
and the fact that the public transport in Hackney is warmer than my flat at the moment doesn't help.

I'm going to post few warm and cosy pics from the previous brunch to keep the spirits up till the next one. x
